Natives or Immigrants ?

I am trying to keep up with the reading material . I kind of made my own schedule to work on #EDCMOOC to get organised. I do some reading first,  and then go to Facebook to read the very interesting ideas and information my classmates are sharing .
When we think of technology, what do you think of ? Personally, I think of technology as a whole, and not an idea that has become popular last century, but as an phenomena that has been present since the time human invented the first tools, that is part of our present ,and that will definitely be part of our future.
I perceive technology as the foundation of the social and cultural system. Political, educational , economic, and social changes are due to technological advances. By stating this, I would say that I agree with Marx and Angel' theory of Historical Materialism.
Now when I think about education, and narrow it to the learning teaching experience, I would say that despite the fact my students were born is this so called digital era, they are not digital immigrants nor digital natives, according to the definition provided by Mark Prensky :  Digital Natives/ Digital Immigrants/ Prensky But he is right on addressing one very important matter, most of the teachers we have out there , are digital immigrants , hence they are still getting used to the new technologies .

Utopian or Dystopian ?

The second video assigned was called Inbox

The discussion here was about Utopian or Dystopian . I found it to be both at times although I was leaning more towards the Dystopian side.
The parallel between the use or not use of technology called my attention here, and also effective communication. As a teacher I think that effective communication is an essential competence, and excuse me if I use that term, but I wonder if with technology ,making major important changes in our society, we become less human and more machines; ... that lead us to the third video in discussion, Thursday :

In this animated short film you will see how nature and technology live together, what is there to gain and what is there to lose. I was very depressed when I watched it first, the artist with those shapes and grey colours is sending us a message already . See for yourself ! Enjoy and leave me some feedback

How it all started

Well, this is Something New, starting a blog, I like trying new things.
It was my intention to create a blog long ago, actually 2007 when I also started with my Flick , Facebook, YouTube  account but I had totally forgotten until today. Why today ? Well, I'm taking a course on E-Learning and Digital Cultureshttps://class.coursera.org/edc-001/class/index and seems that everybody out there had a blog !, I was fine with my Flick and Facebook daily interaction after work. However, this course had made me realised how many platforms are out there available and free to use.
It was overwhelming when I started the course last Sunday, there was sooo much to read and too much information coming from different places all over the world ( 40.000 students ! ) that I felt lost and gave up after spending almost five hours trying to catch up with all the social networks, the assignments, and the Forum.

On Monday, I started to take things slower, watched the Film Festival again and took notes this time , and then I went back to the Forum for feedback. After that, I did some heavy reading on Technological or Media by Daniel Chandler http://web.archive.org/web/20121110225939/http://www.aber.ac.uk/media/Documents/tecdet/tecdet.html, and there I met again with my old friends Marx, Rousseau and many others that have given me a lot of  food for the thought in the past, but were a little bit forgotten due to the long working hours. I have to say, after reading and analysing the texts I was more prepared to back to the Forum with some theory to support my ideas on the Popular Cultures videos. There are 4 videos to be watched, analysed and discussed :
Here it is the first , Bendito Machine III, have a look and feel free to add some comments about how technology is shown in this video :
